SUSTAINABLE QUARTERLY MAGAZINE
FEEL GOOD IN YOUR OWN SKIN
FORM is a multi-spread magazine based on the inclusion and equal representation of all body types in media and fashion. This publication is meant to confront the media’s beauty standards and boldly claim our bodies as our own. As you flip through the March Issue, you should see yourself in this magazine as a unique individual but also a part of a much larger community. The March 2022 Issue features a personal interview with Content Creator and founder of Canada’s first ever plus-size magazine, DARE, Diana Di Poce.A TALK WITH DIANA DI POCE
I interviewed Diana Di Poce (@diana.dares on Instagram and TikTok) about her experiences as a plus-size woman, content creator, and art director, and she graciously answered any and all questions I had regarding her work. Diana shared her experiences as a plus-size content creator, who is known for her ‘This Pinterest Look on a Size 20’ try-on series. She talked about her work as the founder of Canada’s first ever plus-size magazine, DARE. Diana gave us an inside look at body-inclusive brands and closet staples that are a must-have in her closet. It was such a great experience to connect with her and hear about her experiences and advice when living in a world that isn’t always nice to those with non-conformative bodies. She was excited to be a part of a project like this as it was what she went to college for and eagerly awaited a copy of the magazine once it was completed!
STEREOTYPES ARE OUT, SELF-LOVE IS IN.
If you ask anyone if they have ever been labeled as a stereotype, their answer will more than likely be ‘yes.’ When this project was assigned, I wasn’t sure what I could possibly do with ‘sustainability’ because I was not very versed in recycling and waste management. But after diving into some research, I discovered that sustainability is a lot more than just sorting your trash and saving water. It's this whole complex concept that goes beyond the basics. It's about how we live, what we buy, and how it all fits into this larger puzzle. It's about finding this delicate balance that doesn't just preserve the environment but also respects people and their livelihoods.I chose to create a publication about the inclusivity of all body types and the representation of those with different bodies and abilities. Having had personal experience with this topic, I felt that it should have been a point of conversation and addressed—and what better way than through a magazine? When I was imagining this publication, I wanted it to feel neutral but confident, embracing but individual—the audience should have been able to pick it up and see themselves in it but feel like they were a part of something bigger than themselves. I had imagined a simple grid layout balanced out with interacting typography and imagery. I had hoped to utilize the color scheme in a way that made it feel cohesive but also emphasized the individuality aspect of being who you are, rather than fitting into a standard. I hadn’t wanted to fall into the cliché “love yourself” aesthetic you see on Pinterest. I was pulling vibes from Dove and other brand campaigns, feminist graphics, round and smooth shapes, and pops of color.
